Finca St. Jorge is located in Senahu, Coban, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala at an altitude of 1200-1400 mt ASI, with a rainfall between 3500 to 4500 mm/year. You will find it at 15.4126N and 89.8271W where the high mountain and rocky volcano soil allows us to produce high quality coffees and cardamom.
The farm is professionally managed. The owner is an agricultural engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the production of coffee and many other products. He has selected the best volcanic soils of Guatemala. St. Jorge Farm is located in a village of native Q'eqchi'-Maya farmers. We use spring natural water for irrigation, green tagged fertilizers and insecticides, natural processing to save water, sun dry techniques, and harvest, transportation and packing by hand to save combustible and avoid pollution. We have planted thousands of trees to preserve, reproduce and enhance the life of many bird species and avoid erosion. We rotate plantations to decrease the use of fertilizers and insecticides.
During harvest, about 500 farmers participate, 150 women among them. During the growing season, the farm is taken care by about 30 farmers who live in the farm with their families on a permanent basis. These families include 24% men, 33% women, 10% adolescents, 16% young children, and 16% widows and elderly women and men. They are provided housing, and a plot of land for their own agricultural needs. Additionally, St. Jorge Farm provides health care, instruction in civics, parenting, family relations, and agricultural practices such as soil preservation, environmental sustainability, water management, and recycling. More broadly, our farmers learn how to protect their families and the community at large.
We offer our honest and transparent product quality. We taste our products before placing them in the market. Our SCA Lab tests are available to you at your request. We provide samples of our products to you for your own independent analysis. We will never stand for practices that we do not use. We affirm that our products are single origin, naturally processed, hand-picked, transported, and packed. These practices are not just to protect our farmers, but also to protect the sensibility of the environment and the final quality of our products.
